But whea it came to putting together a business plan for the swimming pool purification com- pany that he is a director of, Beesley was out of his depth. Beesley received quotes from professional business consultants of between $80 and $120 per hour to prepare a business plan. ‘‘We just didn’t have that sort of cash," he said. Then Beestey turned to the Stu- dent Business Consulting Group, formed by Simon Fraser University business students in April of 1985. The students charge $17 per hour. Beesley was looking for someone to put together a polished business plan that would enable himself and the other three directors of the Purichlor corporation to take their company onto the Vancouver Stock Exchange. Funding from the VSE is needed to develop and market a device in- vented by Richard Collier of Hawaii. The unit uses electrolysis to turn rock salt into chlorine gas. The gas is then dissolved into pool water which circulates through the unit. A prototype of the system was tested at an apartment pool in West Vancouver last summer. SFU students Brian Krieger and Peter Ireland helped Beesley to prepare a polished business plan. They also did research imto the current state of the pool industry, and double checked some of the marketing projections Beesley had been given.
