WV library offers records

The West Vancouver
Memorial Library is ex-
panding and updating its
collection of recordings for
adults and children. Over
500 new recordings have
already been made available
and there will be a steady
supply of new albums in the
months ahead.

The library is fortunate to
have a record collection of
about 1500 discs at present.
It 1s the hope to double that

in 1980, the library’s 30th
amniversary year.

Because the original
collection was started with
public donations, the hope is
that this present upgrading
of the collection can elicit
more donated albums. If you
have records that you may
have taped or if your
collection is crowding you
out of listening space, the
library would welcome any
donation of personal

recordings. In this way the
year’s goal of doubling the
library’s collection can be
met.

All new records are being
displayed in new browsing

bins by category and
everyone should find
something of interest.

Records are lent for 14 days
at no cost. Suggestions for
specific purchases or areas
of interest are being solicited
at the library.

One of the most eloquent
gifts to <onvey a romantic
message on St. Valentine's
Day is red, and regal — and
sometimes comes. all
wrapped up in dirt! It's a pot
full of budding tulips and,
because theyre very much
alive in their beds of soil,
they will keep saying “I love
you” for many days after
February | 4th.

Unlike tulips in’ the
outdoor garden, those which
will be in abundant supply in
flonst shops are “early
bloomers’ because
floriculturists have a way of
“coaxing” them to bud and
flower even in the middle of
winter. As a result, crimson
red tulips, either in pots or
budding majestically on
their long, cul stems, will be
used by many men and
women [to express their
sentiments on Valentine's
Day.

Although red isa
traditional colour to connote
the meaning of love. the
Netherlands Flower-bulb
Institute reports that
February's tulips also will be
available in other shades as
white, yellow, orange. pink
and lavender, as well as in
striped bicolours.

should be done with a
slanting cut. Then wrap the
tulips, flower heads as well
as stems, in waxed paper and
soak them in a bucket of
water at about 28 to 35
degrees C Let them stand

you'll find plenty of other

tulips. But wrap the stems
only and — this is very
important — do not put
them in the same water with
other flowers until after
conditioning. Daffodils
exude a toxic. substance
injurious to other flowers.

St. Valentine's Day flowers
in the soil or on the cut stem,
they should, with proper
care, give you days of en-
joyment as well as in-
spiration for fond thought
about the one who sent them
to you.
