MARK Bates won the men’s North Shore Triathlon on Victoria Day. The women’s elite compe- ution was won by Lara Tyler of Vancouver (59:3) min- utes), followed by Kristine Chambers (1:01:52) and Tracey Kerr (1:04:47). Over 500 participants of all ages took parr in the event, which consists of a 740m swim, an 18km_ challenging bike course, and a 5km trail run, Bates finished over one and a half minutes ahead of fellow National Team member Barry Foster (52:46) and Craig Parsons (53:47). Bryan Rhodes, a member of the New Zealand National Team, dropped our after mis- takenly finishing the bike one lap early while holding onto second place.
