Traditionally, in the domain of
art the pursuit of philosophical
speculation on such thorny issues
as human origin or human destiny
is oretty much reserved for the
realm of myth and subject to a
recognizably human degree of
naturalistic representation.

Iti is, after all, difficuit io pursue
the rigors of allegory through the
domain of absolute abstraction.
This is especially true when such
issues come to light within the
duai context of private human
sexuality and public morality or
sin.

The conjectures posited above
are amply explored in two exhibits
currently running within a half-
block of each other in Vancouver.

At the Diane Farris Gallery Attila
Richard Lukacs’ Varieties of Love
surveys the creation myth of
Genesis, among other things, with
the intent of “rewriting Para-
dise,”’ an ambitious project in
which Lukacs entertains a conjec-
tural homosexual notion that
