North Shore Tae Kwon Do Centre recently com- peted in a tournament held in Ferndale, Washington, which included more than 250 people from B.C., Washington and Oregon. The group from the North Shore-came back with 22 trophies in their respective age divisions. The following includes the win- ners: In Forms competition, Gerry Sandberg, Audrey Yap, Kyle Black and Sean Alderberg came first. Lisa Zinck and Joshua Alderberg came second. And James Zinck, Glen Olson and. Dave Kisteman came third. In Sparring competition, Darren Clarke came first, Black and Joshua Alderberg placed second, Waren Schopp, Kisteman, Yap and Cedric Lo all won third place. In the board breaking competi- tion, James Zinck and Yap won firsts, Clarke, Kisteman and Sean Alderberg placed third. Sandberg also won a first-place trophy for one-steps. The North Shore Tae Kwon Do Students will be demonstrating their skills at the upcoming Mar- tial Arts Demonstration at Water- front Park on Sunday, June 21 at 2 p.m. Development camp includes three North Shore players THREE NORTH Shore res- idents were among 46 athletes recently selected for B.C. Amateur Hockey Association’s (BCAHA) Provincial Under 17 Devel- opment Camp. Casey Lemanski, Lada Hampeis and Bruce Strebinger will attend the eight-day camp held in Osoyoos at the end of July. Players were invited to attend the camp based on their play in both the Best Ever B.C. Cup and throughout the hockey season. BCAHA coordinators say the athletes selected are currently among the top B.C. players for their age group. The goal of the Best Ever pro- gram is to increase a young hockey player’s chances te make the Olympic team. N. Van duathlon rescheduled ORGANIZERS have ten- tatively resheduled to June 27 the Summer Evening Duathlon to be held at North Vancouver’s Seymour Demonstration Forest. The race was slated to take place last Saturday, but was cancelled due to technical difficulties. “It was a good thing because it just poured on that Saturday,” said organizer Brent Kamenka. The race involves a_ five-km run, followed by a 30-km cycle and then another five-km run. Participants are asked to call 876-4443 for information about the recheduled event.
