Highrises approved for Deer Ridge FOLLOWING A May 25 public meeting, West Vancouver District Council voted to permit the construction of an eight- and 10-storey apartment building at Deer Ridge. Municipal staff had recom- mended approval of the develop- ment at the site just above the Upper Levels near Cypress Bowl Road because a height increase over the original plans calling for four shorter structures would result in two slimmer buildings, thus reducing the visual impact of the buildings and protecting a forested knoll from being blasted. “It was decided tha! protection of the knoll as a major advan- tage,” zoni.g and development planner Laura Lee Richard said after thr meeting. She sad the application had support from residents already liv- ing at the Deer Ridge develop- ment. They deemed the new plan to be more “environmentally sensitive’ than the origina! plan. But residents living elsewhere in the municipality raised concerns about the visual impact of the higher buildings.
