FASHION 13 ~ Sunday, July 8, 1990 ~ North Shore News Feet need pampering, too CARING FOR aching feet needn't be expensive. Everything you need to get your tired tootsies feeling fresh again can be found around the house. Common cornstarch, for in- stance, is just as effective a foot powder as the costly ones made especially for the purpose. To soften callused skin, try a footbath of weak camomile tea. If calluses are too bulky to smooth away with pumice, apply a paste of crushed aspirin and a small amount of water and lemon juice. Wrap your foot in plastic, cover with a warm towel, and unwrap after about 10 minutes. Then use the pumice to rub away dead skin. Remember that aspirin is an acid, so take care to avoid the normal skin surrounding the cailus. Relax your feet ir a homemade soak. Add any combination of these household products to luke- warm water: borax to cleanse and soften; witch hazel to help relieve swelling; pure peppermint tea to seothe; ordinary black tea as an antiperspirant. Add a few drops of iodine of Betadine to the soak to keep your feet free of infection, especially if you have an ingrown toenail. lf you must be on your feet when your arches are beginning to feel tender, create arch supporis Fashions on parade ONGOING-The Black Velvet Model Search is launching its first Canadian competition.
