UNEXPECTED EXPLOSIONS
Giass bottles pose hazards

ONE HOT summer evening,
a week cr so ago, I returned
from the grocery store with
a big order, including two
bottles of Canada Dry club
soda.

After unpacking, I poured
myself a drink, using one of the
new bottles of soda. The other I
left on the counter while I retired
to the next room to catch my
breath.

About 20 minutes later, an ex-
plosion loud enough for Brian to
hear downstairs, over the roar of
the TV and with the door shut,
blasted our kitchen.

I ducked for cover, thinking we
might have imported more than
movie studios from Los Angeles.

Instead, we had a Niagara of
club soda and a neatly split bottle.
Luckily, not even a cat was nearby
to catch a splinter of exploding

glass.

I called T.C.C. Bottling Ltd.,
the disuributors and reported my
shattered bottle and shattered
nerves,

They sent their representative,
Wayne Penny, around today with
a 24tin case of soda and some ex-
planations.

boitle for something as widely
consumed as a soft drink.

get the oversized bottles in plastic
and the little one-serving plastic
bottles of fruit juice.

Meanwhile, try to store your
unopened glass-bottled soft drinks
in a cool place. Belt your kids up-
side-the-head if you catch them
shaking an unopened bottle. (Ver-
tally, of course.)
