BC Ferries is going to build a new ferry terminal and three-storey parkade. Construction on a new $5 million terminal building is slated to begin at the end of this month. Additionally, a three-storey 450-car parkade and maintenance facility is slated to begin later in the year. Many of the more than 100 residents who attended the meeting were furious with BC Ferries putting on a public mecting for a project that is essentially a done deal. Residents were frustrated with West Vancouver Mavor Par Boname for not being able to effectively deal with a Crown corporation that is viewed as running roughshod over their concerns. BC Ferries plans to build a new terminal building at the corner of Bay and Keith streets across from Horseshoe Bay Park that would house passengers, ticketing and bag- gage requirements on the ground level. The second level would contain administration offices. An information kiosk and possible car rental agency All Spring & Summer Sandals are being considered to occu- py the building in the future. A parkade meant to ad dress the overcrowded and illegal parking at the Lions Club parking lot on Marine Drive is undergoing final design work and is slated to begin construction —iin November through to the fol- lowing summer. The $7 mil- lion parkade will be built and run by private parties — Standard Parking and Scott Managemeat, a construction firm. During =the = summer months many residents have their roads full of cars parked along Eagleridge Drive. Currently 220 parking spaces are available with the Lions Club parking on Marine Drive acting as overflow, but many more are needed.
