VAN YMCA PROGRAM Mentally handicapped learn dance and drama IMAGINATION Express, a 10- week class in creative drama and dance for mentally handicapped people in their teens and twenties, will begin on Monday, Sept. 29, at the North Shore Family YMCA, 440 Hendry St. at 7 p.m. The course emphasizes basic theatre and dance skills with a heavy emphasis on self-expression and interaction with others through action. Spoken language will be used but is not the focus of the course. The 20 people involved in last year’s very successful class agree that it offers not only good in- struction and learning skills but also provides an opportunity for fellowship, fitness and fun. Derek Garn- carz has been in Canada for four years and has been a car- rier with us for just over two years. He delivers 208 of our Wednesday and Friday News and is very reliable and conscientious. Derek is 15 years old, attends grade 10 at St. Thomas Aquinas Schoo! and lists PE., Math and Social Studies as his favourite subjects.
