Prince Hal at Spratt’s Ark The Vancouver Playhouse will present William Shakespeare's HENRY IV, PART I on their second stage at Spratt’s Ark Theatre, 1636 Richards Street, opening Thursday, March 6 at 8 p.m. HENRY IV, PART I remains the most famous of Shakespeéare’s plays based on English history. Set against a background of exciting and turbulent historical events, the play examines the education of Prince Hal, heir to the throne of his father, King Henry IV. Through the characters of Hal and hi riotous friend, the immort&l Sir John Falstaff. Shakespeare presents us with a _ fascinating and brilliant debate on the nature of kingship and honour. To emphasize Shakespeare's vigorous and forthright text, and in keeping with the simplicity of the plot and purity of its structure, director Robert Graham and_ designer Cameron Porteous have stripped the production to its bare essentials. The set and costumes are simple — suggestive of the medieval period but lacking in details. The result is an imaginative, striking and powerful presentation of the play. Peter Haworth will be seen in the title role; Leon Pownall as Sir John Falstaff, Ron Halder as Prince Hal! and Nicola Cavendish as Mistress Quickly. The cast also includes Donald Adams, Guy Bannerman, Martha Burns, Gary Chalk, Jim Mezon,- Richard Newman, Brian Taylor and Matthew Walker. HENRY IV, PART I is Stage managed by Sarah King. Ian Fenwick’ is the LAUGHTER-FILLED MOMENT -- one of many — in Mary O"Malley’s comedy “Once A Catholic” which opens Thursday at the Arts Club Theatre on Granville Island.
