. Mountain freestyle contest (Terry Peters photo) ~——T weekend's Honda Amateur Freestyle Finals held at Grouse Mountain were a great success, accor- ding to Dave Brown, zone chairman. The senior over-all cham- pionship was won by Doug Chwery, 17, who skis at Grouse. He took ‘first place in ballet, fourth in moguls and fifth in aerials, which are the three events making up the championship event. Second place in that division went to Jeff Myers, 19, again from Grouse. Eric Philips, 22, from Whistler took third place. Special mention in the senior division goes to Doug Bams, 21, from Whistler, who took the over-all acrials competition, beating = the nearest rival by a wide margin. fo reestyle ompetition on Grouse big success — The other division fight was for the intermediate championship. Aaron Jefford took the honors here. Jefford, 16, from Grouse, took first in moguls and ballet. Neil Chaloner, 16, from Grouse, placed second with a tie for first in ballet with Jefford and a first in moguls. Third place went to Steve Vogler, 14, from Whistler, who took second in aerials and ballet. because every ‘child has the right to smile Unicef Canada |The West Van senior boys _basketball team placed a respectable third in the recent cight-team _in- vitational Dr. Pepper Emerald Tournament hosted by Vancouver College. The Delta Pacers emerged as winners in the com- petition by defeating the visiting . King’s School of Australia 90-68. West Van defeated ‘Burnaby South 82-71 for its third place finish at War Memorial Gym January 7. The one and only game. that West Van Idst was to Delta, by a score of 71-79— its first game of the tour- nament. In following games, West Van defeated Kelowna 82-76 and Prince Rupert i11- West Van's Dough Vicic was second high scorer in the competition, compiling. 98 points in the four games. Wayne Andrews of Oak Bay was | top. Scorer with a aes remarkable 123 points, or 30. 75 per game.
