Heart and Souls * & & (Univer- sal) Rated Mature (at the Park & Tilford, Granville, Coquitlam, Sta- tion Square, Scott 72, Clearbrook cinemas) O, TELL me, what happens when you die? Do angels whisk you away? What about that white light at the end of the tunnel stuff? Should you take a change of underwear? Four strangers -- Harrison (Charles Grodin), Julia (Kyra Sedgwick), Milo (Tom Sizemore) and Penny (Alfre Woodard) — find out the hard way when they discover the disadvantages of public transit. Their distracted bus driver “failed to negotiate a turn’ as they say in Driver's td. The departing souls are im- mediate tethered to newly born Thomas Riley. As Thomas grows, his parents wonder why he’s constantly laughing at the walls. Of course, the baby's four “friends,” invisible to all but him, are kootchy-kooing. But when, at the ripe old age of seven, he starts getting advice on placing bets, he unnerves his parents and the spirits decide it would be best if they ‘sort of” disappeared. Twenty-five years later the deceased bus driver (David Payner) — now condernned to drive a ghostly bus for the next 500 years — comes to tell them there’s been a slight mishap. They were supposed to have used this time to tie up the loose ends of their lives through Thomas. So with a very pressing “bus schedule” and a reluctant host, all four get a chance to shuffle back on this mortal coil.
