The Corporation has dispatched Power Smart youth teams to work on tail construction and vegetation management projects before the Baden Powell and Skytine trails take their place as por- dons of the Trans-Canada trail. Twelve Power Smart youth teas of up to nine members each have’ been -vorking around the province tor BC Elydro through- out the summer, appearing at community festivals, sporting events, cultural activities and shopping centres. Teams are based in 12 areas of B.C. — including North Vancouver and the downtown area — and will work from June until the end of nest week. The teams provide information to cus- tomers on such topics as energy efficiency, electrical safety and pro- tection and emergency preparedness. North Vancouver's Susanne Eineigel was one such Power Smart Youth team member. She worked with a three-team crew this summer on the British Properties’ section of the municipal affairs for Canada Baden Powell Trail. Eineigel was paid $9 an hour and worked 35-hour weeks dur- ing her 10-week contract as a team member. Her crew worked on the Baden Powell and was responsible for taking out old stair sections and building new ones; building rock stairs; and digging trenches and installing water bars to halt pre- sent and prevent future water runoff. “The trail’s really been croded a lot in the winter by water flushing down it,” said Eincigel, 26. “We've had to put in a lot of ditches and water bars. A lot of work hasnt been done in keeping, up the stairs.” She said one of the perks of the job is that she’s helping to establish a cross-county trail system. “It's going to be the Trans-Canada Trail and it’s kind of excit- ing to be a part of it, knowing it’s going to be used a lot and that this trail is going to be going from coast to coast.” Work was also done by crews on the Skyline trail which runs along, the Hydro transmission right-of-way to the north of the British Properties. Ecoworks — xn environmental protection project of the Mennonite Central Committee B.C. which provides work experi- ence and training for young people — oversaw the trail improve- ments. — Jan-Christian Sorensen THE following are brief summaries of topics on the agendas of North Shore municipalities and school boards: North Vancouver District Council: Monday, August 28 at 7 p.m. — procla- mation: Lions Gate Hospital Foundation 911 Relay.
