Between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., a blood clinic will be held in the nor- theast fashion wing of Capilano Mall, 935 Marine Dr. The Red Cross is launching a major drive to bring in blood donors over the critical holiday season. — The Christmas period is always a difficult one for blood collection becatise of holidays end the other demands on people’s time. Last January the Red Cross had its first critical shortage in two years because it went into the Christmas period without the necessary backlog of blood donations, said Len Lifchus, director of blood donor recruitment for the Red Cross. Lifchus explained that each donation of whole blood is separated into its components and has the potential to save four lives. Both men and women are encouraged to come to the meetings. Howard says that the negative feelings that are often felt by a caregiver cause him or her to feel guilty. The group meetings’ ‘‘give , the caregivers a chance to ventilate their feelings’? amongst others who share similar experiences, she notes. The meetings also incorporate an information component.
