CARLOS Santana’s story
begins in the village of
Autlan, Mexico, where, at a
young age, he was intro-
duced to traditional music
by his father, an accom-
plished mariachi musician.
When his family moved to
Tiajuana in 1955, Santana
picked up the guitar, studving

the sounds of B.b. King, T-
Bone Walker and John Lee
Hooker. He started to play in
local bands, later moving to
San Francisco where he con-
tinued to evulve his .

The history of the Sanna
band began in the summer of
1966 when Carlos met up
with Gregg Rolie during an
impromiu jam. One month
later, in September, the group
made its debut.
