Yhe 43-year-old North Vancouver woman was found guilty of cbstructing justice last Friday in B.C. Supreme court by a jury that took about 15 hours to make up its mind. Although she won'r be sentenced until Aug. 20, Guess faces a maximum of 10 years in jail. One day after she heard the verdict, Guess said she could hardly keep her eves open and spent the majority of Saturday repeatedly nod- ding off. She sent her son Adam to the video store with instructions to choose a film he thought would help lift his mom our of the doldrums. Adam returned with The Full Monty and Austin Powers. Guess’ problems stem from the 1995 wial of Preet Sarjit (Peter) Gill and five other men who were accused of murdering Ron and Jim Dosanjh, during which she served as a juror. Within seconds of the “guilty” word being uttered a cell phone rang in the court- room gallery. The phone belonged to her friend Maria Matsen and the call was fram Guess’ daughter Alana. Guess said Alana had had a premonition that “something terrible has happened. “She felt my pain and her brother's pain,” said Guess. Last Sattrday — night’s videos may have temporarily helped Guess take her mind off her troubles, but the our- come of her trial is not likely to let her be for some time. “My inner peace went to outer space,” summarized Guess. “I woke up Sunday morning feeling, just: more like myself again. Another way Guess keeps herself loose is to talk about the trial and her experiences.
