It was been one long, long week from that devastating phone call to Saturday the 13th when we had the memorial services. All of us have had en immeasurable loss, a grandson, a son, a brother, a nephew and friend. In all of this grief, [have found a miracle! 1 didn’t have to look; it was there. I was taught at a very young age to be inde- pendent, not to show weakness, and not to show My emotions. T know you all see and hear jokes, such as the TV sit-coms about men who cannot show their emotions. Instead, they talk about sports. The stiff women who only show bitterness. It is true, T think because of the wars, the Depression, and the business of j just surviving, that most of the “older generation” is like this. The Lord loves me and has blessed me with a Joving daughter, Lee, and her devoted husband, Mike. Because of the openness, the love they share, they have given a priccless gift to their chil- dren — being able to show their love, and being able to express their feelings. This love has ailowed them the independence to accept and love themseives, and their family and friends. That’s part of my miracle. Lee and Mike have been parents to many d grief over the years and will continue to be. ‘The Hahn house has always been open to ali There is always Jove there, a haven, a place to go, a place to talk, a place to go for advice, a place just to be ... Tam so tortunate to be included, and 1 feel like a grandma to many. The love that I have received trom Chris’ and Colin’s friends this week, as well as our friends, cannot be described. The support, the sharing, being able to comfort as well as be comforted. This is the rest of my miracle! When Chris was very young, berween two and three, Mike and Lee were driving and talking about a death, the funeral, that sort of thing. di Chris asked, “Where to people go when they ie?” Mike told him that the people go to heaven to live with God. After much thought, Chris said, “ When I die, I’m going to go live at my Grandpa's house.” Chris, the door is open. It is open to all. Chris will always be my eagle, and Colin will be my rabbit. [ just want to thank all the mar- velous poor who have been there for us this weck, for all the love, the support, the flowers, cards, for myself, my family, and for Chris and Colir: for all the love you have shown this week. Be strong. Sandra Ducharme Sducharm@axionet.com Retirement reasoning questioned Dear Editor: I am at a loss to under- stand Mr, Coilins’s retirement reason. Mr. Collins would have made his point in an ful groups. he admitted that it was duc to North Sat. Sept. 20 the pressure from the power- By indicating that he is retiring for other reasons, Mr. Collins has chosen to lose this exceedingly impressive way, if timely opportunity to strike the last deciding blow. He, as well as North Shore News, therefore must have other reasons for the free speech stand that had been taken for so long and so hard. A.
