Tires, one of the most obvious paris of a vehicle, should be checked for: ¢ Correct Air Pressure: Check to make sure the tire is not over/under inflated. The maxi- mum pressure is located on the tire sidewall. © The Tread Depth: A vehicle with insufficient tire tread does not allow for full traction and control. especially on wei road surfaces. If you do not own a tire tread depth gauge, a laminated B.C. Driver's License can suffice. On the phota side of the license, from the license to, the edge of the clear plastic is 3-5 mm. A tread depth -~ of 3-5 mm should protect the tire from the ravages of the road. ¢ Lumps. Bumps, Bulges and Cuts: A bulge or bump in the tre sidewall could mean that the tire cords have broken and the tire ™ could fail at the most inopportune Ume, ruining your summer trip. A cut in the sidewall could also cause the tire to fail. While checking your tires, you need to look at the wheel to make sure itis not bent or cracked. A rim badly bent or cracked could ~ allow the air seal between the tire and rim to fail atany Gime.
