A novel conceit from a band
that has made a career of puri-
tanical sonic uniformity, Acid
Eaters has the Ramones thrashing
out punkish cartoon versions of
some of the classic 1960s tracks
that made an impression on the
- leathery lads.
"Take It As it Comes, the Doors
_.., fack included on Mondo
:, Bizzaro, the last Ramones °
release, opened this psychedelic
Pandora‘s box.
There is the expected
homage paid — Jan and Dean's

Time — but the Ramone’s power
through some oddball match-ups

The Texas power trio, a quin-
tessentially American party-ani-
mal institution, thunder through
another batch of insta rock clas-
sics.

While the lyrics are dumb and
ugly, the trademark thickly fuzzy
guitar sound is pure. sonic narcot-
ic.

Yep, them good ol’ boys
channel gritty flash through them
thar magical beards.

Antenna drives hard.

As soundtracks go, this one is
a corker. An innocent man is
forced to make a false confession
to'a horrifying crime and in the
process much fine music is made
to move the plot along.

The score, written by Trevor
Jones (Angel Heart, Last of The
Mohicans), is suitably atmospher-
ic, but it's the bits contributed by
U2’s Bono and fellow trish soul-
mates Gavin Friday and Maurice
Seezer that give this release a life
beyond the big screen.

In The Name Of The Father is
a brooding, dramatic piece with
Bono and Friday on lead vox that
would have sounded right at
home on Zooropa. It’s heavy on
