In Search of te Real Gift of Christa How far from Bethlehem have we strayed? o what does Christmas really mean for us? What significance is there to the little town of Bethlehem in our fast-paced modern technological world? Are we to believe the gentlemen in the television commercial who said that Christmas meant going from store _to store until he found the ultimate in one-stop shopping convenience? But down the street exists your better price advantage; and across the way the lowest price is the law; while over there they proclaim that nobody does Christmas better. There is fierce competition to gain your attention and entice you to spend. Is Christmas about shopping - and spending? How far from Bethlehem are we? That question was raised several years ago in a story by Dr. Leonard Mann. It causes us to reflect and meditate. Geographically, we are quite a few thousand kilometers away, but more importantly, how far have we strayed from Bethlehem in spirit? How far away are we in understanding and accepting the meaning of Christmas? How far away are we. in making the Christmas spirit a part of our daily routine? Many people will make "a journey" this Christmas, from store to store in search of the ideal gift. I challenge you to embark on a different journey, a pilgrimage of the spirit in search of the real gift of Christmas. Christmas is God's act of love reaching out across two thousand years of human history to still touch us with the gift of his son. 980-2474. eos How far from Bethlehem have we strayed? That depends on the message you choose to hear. We Senior cyclists meet at 9:30 a.m, at fe eed + . . W.V. Senior Activity Centre, 22nd can listen to the commercial message of Santa Claus and shopping, or we can hear the message of Ave. & Marine Dr. in W.V. No riding God's. love. True peace comes in the message heard by the shepherds in the fields near Bethelehem: if it is raining. info: 985-5038. " . . . . 7 oo ; Unto you is born this day in the City of David a Saviour who is Christ the Lord". In our wandering let us remember that simple yet profound exouncement so that we may understand God's great gift of love. In this way we remain close to BethIchem.
