44 ~ Wednesday, April 24, 1991 —- North Shore News LIFESTYLES Boyiriend’s lack of steam raises fidelity question Q. HOW CAN ! find out if my boyfriend is having sex with somecne ¢ise? Both in our fate 30s, we've been fogether for nearly seven years. In the beginning, we spent four or five nights a week together, mak- ing love each night and in the morning. In the past year we've only spent three nights a week together, making fove each night and again in the morning. But sometimes, probably once a weck, he docsn’t ejaculate during the morning lovemaking session. Is this a sign that he is seeing another woman? f am wondering if a man can run out of ejaculate and if that could be happening to him. A. At his age, I doubt he can be ejaculating with another woman. He might be making love to someone else, but I don’t see how he could be ejaculating more often than he already is with you. If that is your only reason for suspecting he’s seeing another woman, put your mind at ease. As men age, they need more time to accumulate semen. Most men in their late 30s could not make love, and ejaculate, morning and evening several times a week. Stop worrying! You are turning the natural process of aging into a problem. Why make trouble where none exists? Q. How long should it take for a normal woman to reach orgasm? I am 61 years of age and have been married to tite same man for 40 years. My husband is a good lover, but he claims it takes me too long to reach orgasm. Sometimes it does take a half an hour. Rarely does it take fess than 20 minutes. He says I should have speeded up over the years, but I haven’t. My timing is about the same now as it was in my youth. Does that make be abnormal too? If there is something I can do to reach orgasm more quickly, I’m willing to try. I don't consider myself too old to learn new sex tricks. A. 1 don’t like those words “‘normal’’ and ‘‘abnormal!’’ Many women do take 30 minutes or longer to reach orgasm. And, while some women find they take less time to become aroused and reach orgasm as they age, other women don’t see any change. Don’t get upset with yourself. Make sure you use plenty of Dr. Ruth Westheimer ASK DR. RUTH. lubricant. Also you might want to try stimulating yourself before lovemaking. Or you might even consider introducing a vibrator in- to lovemaking. Your attitude about learning something new is fabulous! Tell your husband he is a lucky man who should stop criticizing his wife's sexual behavior. Q. My girlfriend thinks I have a psychological hang-up about my penis, and she may be right. [’ve never been completely comfortable with my size, which is small. She says that I am the same size as her other boyfriend was when I get erect. That may be true, but what does it prove? P’'m only her second lover. Where this size issue interferes is in the foreplay. I don’t want to take my pants off until I am erect. A. I think she’s right when she says you have a “hang-up’’ about penis size. She is also right when she tells you that there is little dif- ference in the size of male erec- tions. In time you will probably telax and accept yourself, Meanwhile, you are making her uncomfortable by your attitude. Think how you would feel if she refused to take her blouse off because she fears her breasts are too smail! Teli her you do not. want her to focus attention on your lack of erection when it occurs. Many men feel this way, because they are embarrassed about losing the erection. When that happens, pleasure her and forget yourself.
