FOOD BANK HELPED

N. Vancouver

heart of gold

IT’S probably the best shine
in town, with half the cost
going to charity.

North Vancouver's Joe Jesseau
is donating half of his fee from
each shoeshine to the Vancouver
Fooa Bank.

Jesseau, 46, charges $2 per shine
and works out of the tower level of
the Royal Centre Mall. He’s been
at the same spot, near the
escalator, for the past 2% years.

Last Monday he visited the food
bank and was given posters and a
food collection box, which he has
placed beside his place of business.

“Et went by the church and saw
the big soup line and figured how

lucky we are,’* he said.

It was for this reason Jesseau
decided to raise money for others.

He raised $20 in two days after
beginning his fund-raising venture,
and blames the low amount on the
rain.

He expects business to improve
now that the weather has improv-
ed.

the Royal Centre Mall and has
made many friends in the area,
where he's known as ‘‘friendly
Joe.”

To contribute to Jesseau’s
fund-raising campaign, prospective
customers can find him at the mall
six days a week, excli.ding Sunday,
from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
