Firemen unwind at the
annual Hose Reel Race

IT IS TIME again for the great
Canadian Hoser Race.

In full regalia complete with an-
tique fire trucks, representatives
from almost every fire department
in Greater Vancouver will parade
up Lonsdale from Victoria Park to

Mahon Park, to open the fifth an-

nual.Fire Hose Reel Races.
Sponsored by the three North
Shore fire departments, the day
long event includes bucket brigade
‘races and tug-of-war competitions

as well as the hose reel races and”

other fun events.

Richmond, who took the Bucket
Brigade Race last year.

Over 200 firefighting athletes
will compete.

The festivities will get under way
at 10:30 a.m. when the parade
leaves Victoria Park.

All proceeds for the day are split |B *

evenly between the Lions Gate
Hospital’s children’s ward and
Vancouver General Hospital’s
burn unit.

West Vancouver Fire Depart-
ment. organizer Tom Bell said. the

event attracted 5,000 spectators’ }

last year, and he expects even more

this year as long as the, weather

holds.
