Federal Department of Fisheries officials are em- barassed by the use of an airgun to extermimate a family of cats living on fisheries property at 4160 Marine Drive in West Vancouver. -The wild cats had been inhabiting an abandoned building at the back of the property, which is used for fish research, and were causing a health hazard because they were infested with fleas, a fisheries spokesman said. An exterminator, Abell Waco Ltd., was calied in recently and shot some of the cats with an airgun. The rest of the animals then left the building. Fisheries official George Hunter refused to give him any information but asked him which employee had told him about the cats. The department spokesman says they tried to deal with the cats humanely, by calling the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals(SPCA), but the SPCA said they couldn't do anything, so a _ private company had to be called.
