Dear Mr. Fix-it,

(right side) of my °97
Buick Park Avenue a few
months ago.

week and the noise returned
and now there is a baby play-
ing a rattler under the hood
— I mean the noise got
much louder.

A friend told me to turn
the radio on louder as there
is no fix. Any opinion?

Your 1997 Buick Park
Avenue could have had a
noisy serpentine belt. That
would have to be verified by
a technician.

shields should be checked for
looseness or rattling.

All of these items should
be looked into to verify if
there are any problems.

Dear Mr, Fix-it,

I have a 1985 Toyota
Celica GT (with 9 over
300,000 km). Lately I've had
two problems.

One is a sticky gearshift
(it’s a five-speed standard). It
doesn’t happen ail the time
but when it does it’s getting
it from neutral without hav-

sounds like it is starting but
the motor does not turn
over, if that’s the right word.

Usually after several
attempts it does turn over
and then it is usually fine. It
usually has to be sitting for a
while but not always.

Dear Bill,

Your Toyota Celica GT
transmission may have worn
linkages or the clutch may
not be releasing properly and
that would cause stiffness in
shifting the clutch.

The hydraulic fluid
should be inspected for
proper fluid level; also the
clutch slave and master cylin-
ders .would need to. be
inspected to check for
bypassing or leaking.

The intermittent ro
cranking could be related to
the starter contacts (starter

when the key is turned you
may hear a click, or nothing
at all, and the engine won't
turn over or crank.

If turning the key off and
on to the start position sever-
al times, the engine
eventually cranks and starts,
this could indicate worn |
starter contacts that may
need to be replaced.
