The three executive dirce- tors asked council to direct their staff te assist, them in finding one central location within city limits chat the organizations could share. “We want to find ways to put our heads under one roof,” Crouse told council. “In putting our services together we'll be saving money and be ‘able to provide better service.” Ruthertord told council that the purpose of co-locat- ing would be to benefit the families of children with spe- cial needs and to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of each association. “One third of the kids (that attend their offices) live within the city,” he said. “That required service should be located within walking distance for most newly s 1999, 51 Pathfinder people we're hoping coun eb sal help us doak for a suit able site me the cine” With targeted services jocared in one burkding, beth parents and protessional social workers will be alle ta meke the connections neces sary to ensure smooth coor dination. Although all three social care agencies fall under the auspices of the provincial government, the city pro- vides them with some finan- cial support. When asked by Coun. Bob Fearntiey ifthe provincial government was “anteing up” for the move, Rutherford replied, “They (the B.C. gov- ermmeni) are anteing up in the sense of rent and admin- istrative costs, bur we'd rather pay rent to the city than a private landlord.” The B.C. government dishes out approximatcl: S6 million annually to the agen- cies.
