However, some people, as they get older, will find thar they really do have trouble living in a house that was just right when they were raising their families 30 or 40 vears ago. 1, myself, tive ina townhouse with two sets of stairs, and, like many of my friends, I find that g going up and down stairs is becoming more difficult. At a recent meeting of the North Shore Seniors’ Health Consumer Council, we heard from over 100 people who responded to a ques- tionnaire on housing distributed to seniors” groups. Other options, such as secondary suites or “granny suites” (separate buildings in the garden) are good for many older people, especially if an adult son or daughter lives in the main house. Many of us would like to be close to children and grand- children, but not too close. Supportive housing is available if we want some help with our day-to day activities such as meals, laundry, er deaning. There are buildings in Vancouver and Burnaby that provide this kind of help, Untortunarely, the only North Shore home of this wpe is Hollyburn House in West Vancouver.
