WEST Vancouver lost a
member of one of its pioneer
families Monday with the
passing of Lorne Colpitts.

Mr. Colpitts, who was one
of eight chidren of Frank and
Janet Colpitts, died peacefully
at home following a 15-vear
battle with cancer. He was 83.

During his final weeks, he
entertained family members
with stories of West
Vancouver's early days.

“He logecd the British
Properties as a youngster an
would take the family’s cows
down to the slue (where the
Ambleside duck pond now
stands),” said daughter-in-law
Lynn. Colpitts.

During the Depression
years, “he road the rails as a
young teenager looking for
work” and ended up in
Vermilion, Alberta, where he
stayed at the Hoilen Farm for a
few years, she recalled.

LORNE Colpitts and wife Helen celebrated their 55th
wedding anniversary this past Nov. 5.

Pacific Properties. From 1942
to 1946, he served in the Irish
Fusiliers, Upon returning to
West Vancouver, he joined the
district’s volunteer fire service,
and leit in 1972 as fire chief.

As a self-emploved carpen-
ter he built and remodeled
houses across the North Shore,
including his family’s home on
Jefferson Avenue.

He is survived by his wife

Helen; sisters Evelyn, Eunice,
Marie, Agnes and brother
Frank; children Ross and Lynn
Colpits, Margaret — and
Howard Moody; grandsons
Tan Richard and David Lorne
Moody, and John Payson and
Paul Ross Colpitts.

A memorial service was heid
Thursday, March 6, at West
Vancouver Baptist Church.
