Eight-year-old = Alexandra MacFarlane says so, and she should know. She’s been entrusted with re- writing the familiar fairy tale, and . with the guidance of 16-year-old ‘Tracy Huang she’s gaining a whole ‘new perspective on the big, “bad” _ wolf. MacFarlane is one of the Grade 3 students at Braemar clementary who are teaming up with Grade 10s from Balmoral secondary to re- write old stories from new points of ‘view. , Over cight lessons, the younger children are learning how to use punctuation, examine an alternate perspective and work with bigger kids. MacFarlane's teacher, Kathy Ray, s said the one-on-one tutoring is invaluable for her students. The program also calls for the Grade 3s to read to their teenage mentors, and to get to know members of an age group they often find intimidat- ing. . . The teenagers’ teacher is equally enthusiastic..“The Grade 10s need -to know how to write dialogue,” said Rae Schidlo. In addition to the training she’s already given them, - they are now learning by doing. “They also need to know how to write a resumé,” she explained.
