Dear Editor: North Van School Board's “Administrative costs studied” as it appeared in the North Shore News, Sunday, Nov. 21, prompted me to write this letter, Certainly our school board administrative costs compared to the other 75 districts are much better than average; how- ever, | wish the reader to also con- sider the following facts: 1. The evaluation was conducted by a contract educator who is known to have conducted similar “reports” for other school boards. No doubt the analysis would have had different standards had it been conducted by a member of the Chamber of Commerce. 2. According to your article “The report also recommended the district examine further whether it has adequate levels of middle man- agement and consultive staff posi- tions to meet, its mandate.” Isn't it interesting that a contract education administrator says we necd more administrators. Dear Editor: Casey Peters, Grade 6 Brooksbank elementary school into modern era If Stanley Park is redeveloped and the foreign animals are sct free it will be upsetting but it will make the animals happier. We could replace foreign animals that are unhappy living in our heat. The animals are not enjoyable when they are not happy in their homes. I hope that animals are happy all around the world. 3. Budgets by style are written ina way that they are very difficult to discern, and our school board budget is a good example. Fact: Presently we have more than 12 administrators whose salaries (not counting expenses and benefits) are more than $125,000 per annum. Fact: According. to the Korbiu Commission, colleges such as Capilano College, which cater to a wide category of students, from ESI. and Function Literacy courses to refresher courses for post gradu- ates, and are of similar size to school district FTE student body, incur an administrative cost of 2% compared to the average cost of school boards of 3.8%. © Our school board needs to move into the modern era of management techniques, ‘The world of coramerce and business has reduced top man- agement and middle management to a minimum..
