% - Sunday, March 34, 1989 - Norti'Shore News MAILBox POLLUTION OF HOWE SOUND ‘Shame on you, John Reynolds OPEN LETTER TO JOHN REYNOLDS, MLA, WEST VANCOUVER-HOWE SOUND i understand you believe the Furry Creek area cf Howe Sound “‘would be an ideal place’’ for a major new petro-chemical plant (North Shore News, Feb. 25.) You also think ‘ta good idea’’ the creation of a new, estuary side, deep-sea port at Squamish, and were the bearer of ‘‘great news for the community’’ that a new pulp mill is proposed for Britannia Beach. Howe Sound is without a doubt a fantastic recreational and tourist resource to the Lower Mainland and one of the province's finest at- tributes. Already it is being hideously scarred by the activities of outdated pulp mills, allowed by the misguided policies of former administrations. I cannot believe that any sane person would envisage any further industrial activity for this inlet. Have you iried knocking on doors to ask any local residents of the Sound for their opinion? Is it not obvious that our local future is in tourism and recreation rather than pulp mills and petro plants? United Way Says thanks Dear Editor: On behalf of United Way of the Lower Maialend, thank you and your readers for helping our 1988 campaign exceed its goal, Together we raised $12,925,000, surpassing our goal by $325,000. This wonderful community response came from individuals, corporations, large and = smalt businesses and union members. Our agencies needed more moncy, so we asked more of you to give and, if you could, to give more. You responded to the need. More than 97,000 people gave, and the total raised is 10 per cent more than in 1987. Thank you for listening to our message, for your understanding, and for your generosity. Your help is deeply appreciated. Gordon Waliace General Campaign Chairman United Way OFFERING MOTORHOME RENTALS & SALES, All excellent late model motorhomes and vans 987-5288 1577 LLOYD AVE.
