8 - Sunday, December 18, 1988 - North Shore News MAILBOX Tree loss angers writer Dear Editor: lam writing to express my anger over the calculated destruction of the beautiful pine trees at Westview Shopping Centre. Last week, stopping in at the craft shop, I was appalled to see workmen sawing down the pine trees that have lent shade and beauty to an otherwise ugly park- ing Iot for 20 years. Adams Property Group who are responsible for the Westview renovation are anxious to us2 every available inch for parking, but these trees did far more for the atmosphere than any amount of neon or fancy new awnings. When are we going to realize how precious the natural beauty of the North Shore is to all of us? Margot Masterton North Vancouver Drummer refutes quote Dear Editor: I would like to comment on Noel Wright’s quote in a recent edition of the North Shore News. In the column, entitled Wright or Wrong, Mr. Wright had a quote that read: ‘‘The first thing a child learns when he’s given a drum is that he’s never going to get another one.’’ I tend to disagree. am a drummer. After [ got my snare drum, about five years ago, I immediately set my sights on a drum set, to buy some time in the future. Approximately nine mon- ths ago I made the purchase of a $2,000 drum set with my own money and my parents’ consent. I feel that if a family has not been through this experience, then the parents cannot judge whether the child should get another drum; the child must be that judge.
