book with some trepidation. Pass
ing judgment on a fellow colum
nist's work rates a danger quotient
that ranks right up there with
walking blind-folded through a
minefield or teaching your spouse
how to drive. One wrong move

It is therefore with a profound
sense of relief that | can announce

is a chuckle-and-chortle-replete
romp from start to finish.

On the Sky is a chronological
collection of Hunter's experiences
as & purported travel writer (‘‘pur-
ported" as writing was the farthest
thing from Hunter’s mind — with
the possibie exception of Hunter
himself if you consider the
amounts of dope and drink he
consumed).

The alleged pinnacle of
achievement for such a scribe is to
see the world at someone else's ex-
pense, justifying the freeloading in
the name of publicity for various
facets of the travel industry.
Masochism, it seems, is an afflic-
tion of the corporate as well as the
corporal being.

behavior committed to these pages
could induce apoplexy in the
strait-laced reader; in fact, there
are no doubt members of the
public that would hang this writer
just one branch lower than Hunter
for simply reviewing his book

So, if your hands are already it
ching for the rough fibres of a
good length of hemp, please: in the
interests of non-violence, go no
further. However, if you feel you
can handle a bit of smut and
debauchery in an adult manner
(that means restrained drooling),
just follow me

In the first chapter “Chicken
Bob’ Hunter, guru of the love,
peace and happiness set, lies deep
in a California hot-tub marvelling
#t the gods’ seeming punctuation
of his pronouncements to admiring
hangers-on by distant rumbies
from the firmament. His new
found status as one favored in the
cosmos is shattered by wife Bar-
bara's revelation that they are
cavorting under the approach path
to San Francisco's airport. This is
