something closer to an art than a

egory.

Referring to the stress of com-
petitions, Scott says, ‘‘The women
are really serious about it. [t's
almost like you’re enemies when
you go in there.’

Comparing men and women's
body building, Scott says the men
have always emphasized the muscle

building, Whereas the women have
traditionally gone for a well-
shaped body. But adds that trend
is changing, and many women are
training with the same bigger-is-
better ethos.

She says the look is not smooth,
but “ripped.” This is achieved
through pre-competition crash
dicts, so that there isn’t an ounce
of fat to hide the muscles or the
veins,

Scott competes in the light-
weight division, and the trick, she
says, is to stay near the top weight
allowed. She plans to go in “just
tipping the scales at 114% lbs,
even if | have to skip all the way to
the scales to lose those last few
