EH entertainment C15 - Sunday, May 15, 1983 - North Shore News IN NORTH VAN This year marks the 45th birthday of the Society for the Preservation and En- couragment of Barbershop Singing in America (SPEBSQSA). The Society was founded in April, 1938, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to preserve and maintain the tradition of Barbershop (four-part harmony) Singing. Today, it as the largest fraternity of singers in the world with over 38,000 members in 800 chapters. The Vancouver Chapter (the “Thunderbirds’’) was founded in 1950, and boasts a membership of some 55 from all walks of hfe in the Greater Vancouver Region. To help highlight birthday, the ‘‘Thun- derbirds” are opening its ranks for new members. In addition, the “Thunderbirds” celebrate the and Society's have organized a entitled Moments’ to Remember. The show will feature quartet and chorus four-part harmony sung by the “Thunderbirds” and “Lions Gate” Choruses and two top-notch quartets — the “Pacific Pride” from Oregon and Washington and the “Jim Dandies” from Burnaby, B.C. Barbershop concert planned The show will be on Friday June 3rd = and Saturday June 4th, 1983 in the Centennial Theatre, 123 East 23rd Ave., North Vancouver.
