This was the first time portunity to become in- volved in the tagging operation which offered first hand information on the Fisheries role in monitoring the salmon. At the Fisheries lab the young coho salmon weighing three to six grams have their aditose fin cut off and then a minute tag is placed in their mouth. The tag is a tiny piece of metal which has _ various grooves and markings on it. ~ When a fish is released a record is taken of what type of tag it has and this in- formation can be looked u later when a tagged fish 1s caught. This information supplies vital facts to the Fisheries program and is part of the exciting salmon saga.
