B2 - Sunday News, August 9, 1981 EEE sport Injuries are part of the game But not much fun Injuries are never much fun in soccer, but just like the ball, they are part of the game. Kegrettably,I know what I'm talking about as I sit here with a pair of fractured ribs which will keep me on the coaches bench for at least a couple of weeks. It’s most frustrating for me, especially with the end of season just around the corner and the playoffs ready to begin. However, crying about it won't help anyone. That's why Johnny Giles and I tried to recruit players who would have to spend some time on the bench even though they were capable of playing first team almost anywhere else. Over a long, tough season you have to accept the fact that there will be injuries to many of the players. In fact, its extremely difficult for any player to niake it through a complete season today without some kind of injury Marlins break records The North Shore Winter Club Marlins swim team broke four relay records last weekend at the Surrey Invitational A meet. Besides, he works the injured players so hard, that they are ready to get back into action just for a rest from his ‘cures’. > Seriously though, a pro athlete is paid to play and he has to be put right as. soon as possible and George is an expert in seeing to that. se One of the more difficult sides of the NASL is the heavy travel schedule. While not making any excuses for some of our past games, tt must be remem- bered that we were criss- crossing the continent for nine .of our last 12 games. And near the end of a season, that kind of travel is uring and takes a lot out of a team. We were on the road so often in fact, that I had to think for a bit to remember and individual medley and Shelley Webster was third in the butterfly in the girls 11 and 12 division. Brad Fanos was third in the butterfly in the boys 13 and 14 division. 4HPM $ 595 45xPM $ 695 7 5SHPM $ 695 9 BHP M $1050 9 BHP Mt $1075 9 SBHPEL $1176 18HPM 1225 40 HP Ml $1306 40 HP EL $1776 OO HP Ft $2260 BOHP EL USED MOTORS 1980 Merc 40 HP M 1980 Mer 4HPM 1075 Mer 85 MP EL MECHANIC SPECIAL 1075 Men BOHP EL $425 1072 Evewude 40 HP EL 8100 1971) Johnson GO HP EL 8300 ‘All motors are preserviced including 26/ tank & hose, except 4H P RIVERSIDE MARINE 1341 Main Si North Vancouver 986-2822 ef $2050 $1260 3 476 % 595 our last home encounter before we took on Dallas. Somehow, the league . Must try and balance out the travel arrangements so there are no big gaps between home games. The long road trips make it difficult for the fans to maintain their interest and keep up with the team. The game this coming Wednesday against Seattle should be a_ good one. Sounders play a_ similar attacking style to us and we know that unlike Dallas and many other teams, they won't come to play defense. This match could be one of the biggest of the season and in one sense could be setting up for the upcoming playoffs. While I'll be sidelined, T'll be getting ready to fight for my spot hopefully within a couple of weeks.
