Kin idea turns —T7 tomorrow THE more than 825 Kinsmen, Kinette and Kin clubs across Canada will be cele- brating the 77th anniversary of the founding of their all- Canadian association tomorrow by partici- pating in a variety of special activities. Started in 1920 in Hamilton by the late Harold A. Rogers following his return from World War I, Kinsmen and Kinette Clubs of Canada last year donated more than $23.3 million. to community projects. Kinsmen & Kinette Clubs of Canada, the largest nation- al service organization in Canada, has approximarely 12,000 members between the ages of 19 to 45. The associa- tion’s motto is “Serving the Community’s Greatest Need”, and cach club is responsible for deciding how to spend the local fuiids raised by its members. The clubs also undertake hands-on ser- vice activities, ranging from: constructing playgrounds to organizing social outings for senior citizens. Clubs in approximately 500 cities, towns and villages ~— the North Shore included — are taking part in tomor- row's celebrations. Furthermore, the ciubs have also requested that the week of February 16-22 be designated “Kinsmen / Kinette Week” to pay tribute to the hundreds of thousands of young men and women who have served their com- munities as members of the association during the past 77 years. The only national service project undertaken by Kinsmen and Kinete Clubs of Canada is raising funds for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a gerierically transmit- ted disease that takes the lives of more Canadian children than any other inherited dis- ease.
