The piece is 5% inches in diameter and four inches high. Although simplistic and somewhat naively executed, this clay pot was handmade by the great Canadian and lovally-spawned artist Emily Carr. During her career, Carr resorted to making and selling such wares to the local tourist trade in order to support herself as a struggling artist. Onginally Carr would have sold such a pot for less than $10. Recently a painting by Carr realized at auction here in’ Vancouver almost $1 million. Klee Wyck was the potter's nom de plume and was che name given to her by her many native friends. In translation it means “the one who laughs.” Te this Klee Wyck pot would be valued at $25,000. At auction, a price of $8,000 to $10,000 would be realistic. — Information and object sup- plied by Ted Pappas of North Vancouver-based West Coast Estates Auctions.
