NORTH VANCOUVER DISTRICT COUNCIL Ousted councillor reappointed as acting mayor for new year NORTH VANCOUVER District Coun. Ernie Crist has been reappointed to the position of North Van- couver District acting mayor for April and May in 1993. Despite a motion in November by council that removed Crist from the acting mayor's role and which stated “that he not be reappointed in the 1992-93 year’’ a list of committee appointments Presented to council by Mayor Murray Dykeman on Dee. 14 in- cluded Crist’s position for 1993. Crist’s removal came after Coun. Rick Buchols took offence to remarks made by Crist to the press while Crist was the district's acting mayor in’ Dykeman’s absence. Crist had castigated council for pursuing land sales policies that he said were ‘bankrupt, immoral and intellectually not acceptable.”’ Buchols did not dispute Crist’s right to criticize council but was furious that he had used the mayor’s chair to do it. But Crist refused to apologize for his remarks and sought advice from the municipal solicitor as to whether council had the power to remove him as acting mayor.
