Lions
seeks new
membership

THE HOWE Sound Lions
Club is icoking for com-
munity-minded men and
women, 18 to 80 years of
age, to expand its member-
ship.

The Lions are a worldwide
Organization that started in 1917
with a motto of ‘‘We Serve.”’ It
helps people less fortunate and
needy, with special emphasis on
children whatever their needs.

“Being a Lion means family
and occupation comes first,’’ says
an organizer of the membership
drive. ‘‘We need people to donate
a few hours a month to club pro-
jects (hardly ever selling raffle
tickets) and to have fun at dinner
meetings. That’s it.’*

A few of the charities that
Howe Sound Lions has donated to
in 1992 with a budget of $34,000
are: Timmy’s Telethon, M.S.
Society, drug awareness programs,
Emily Murphy House for Battered
Women, Lions Gate Hospital,
Salvation Army, West Van High
School, Operation Eyesight and
many more,

Individual members of Lions
Clubs are guided by a Code of
Ethics which, with only minor
changes, has stood the test of time
since its adoption by the Interna-
tional Convention of 1918.

It consists of eight business and
personal ethics, one of which is
“to aid others by giving my sym-
pathy to those in distress, my aid
to the weak, and my substance to
the needy.”’
