MAILBOX | Rec commission explains fees Dear Editor: 1 would like to respond to Mr. TLE. Peck’s recent letter regarding the fee increase for public swinuning at North Vancouver recreation facilities. The $4 rate has been designed as a drop-in rate to include fees for any combination of racquetball or squash, acrobic fitpess plus weight room, pool sauna and whirlpool facility at Recreation Commission fa- cilities. This package was deseloped ay a result of significant feedback from our clients. There is also the opnon of coming to the facilities during non-prime time when. with the exception of acrobic fitness, all of the above opportunities are available for $2.25. 1 would further suggest to Mr. Peck thet i he wishes only to swim to make use of the more than 60 public swims offered at the three municipal pools each week. Phe adult admission price for these swine is $2.78. There are also a number of other tee-reducing op- tions such os Our easy drop-in payinert plan. There are menthly, quarterly and annual cates available which represent substantial savings. Cer example, the quarterly rate is based on o8o) one- month rates and the annual fee is based on three quarterly memberships. fr must be remembered that the S4 rate is designed ass combination of activities fee not as a public swim rate during a tine when only wwo lanes are available. Place Stadium to accommodate an ego that size. In the ad, he admitted to han- ding over a SJ4 million “loan” (read ‘taxpayer dollars) to a private corporation. Somebody should mention te this man that today’s electorate locks upon government hand-outs to private industry with almost as much con- tempt as the politician and the government making the an- nouncement. I'm a bit surprised he didn't mention his grant to the private West Vancouver Tennis Club for anew bubble. We wouldn't want these needy athletes te olay out- doors, would we. John’? The North Shace News tolls me a full page ad costs about $2,000. Wouldn't the menes have been better spent on the United Was, the Canadian Cancer Society or a North Shore charity? Instead of “Update. 1 suggest he rename his next report ‘*Up- chuck,"” so we can all be ready for what he’s going to tell us next. Ken J.
