THE CAPILANO College Blues
women’s basketball squad was
(reated to its first league defeat
Jan. 22 when it lost a close game
to Douglas College.

After a first half where the
Capilano team was down 29-14,
the women rallied and put on the

power. But it was too little, too
late and they lost 50-47.

In women’s basketball action the
previous week, the Blues women
eventually triumphed 58-53 over
the VCC Falcons at the Langara
campus of Vancouver Community
College.

The Blues led 34-27 at halftime,

with Jennifer Smaliridge and Lori
Tarasewich accounting for most of
the scoring.

Smallridge continued the lead-
ership in the second half, netting
several baskets, and top rebounder
Trenell Tyerman also made a
strong contribution.

The Blues widened their Jead to

Slow offensive buildup by the
Blues later in the second half
allowed the Falcons back into the
game, and at one point the Falcons
had closed to within 51-48.

The play of Glenda Knight was
critical to the Blues’ victory. Her
outside shooting helped to hold

The second win in as many tries
for the Blues in league play, they
remain in first place in the BC-
CAA.

defence of the year,’’ coach Greg
Sharpe said of the win.
