Some softening in demand for mortgages has been noted in Western Canadian centres such as Calgary and Edmonton, where uncertain- ty in the energy sector has negatively impacted local economies,’’ notes Royal LePage’s residential mor- tgage spokesman. In Central Canada, par- ticularly metropolitan Toronto, demand for mor- tgages remains extremely strong. As in previous months, purchasers of new or resale homes are locking-in for longer-term mortgages.
