MORTGAGE RATE stabili-
ty, together with consumer
and business confidence in
the economy, continue to
fuel demand for residential
and commercial mortgages
in the majority of Canadian
centres, reports the Royal
LePage Canadian Mortgage
Market Bulletin.

“Strong demand fer af-
fordably-priced homes and
the prolonged period of in-
terest rate stabilicy, have
bolstered mortgage activity
in most Canadian centres.
Some softening in demand
for mortgages has been
noted in Western Canadian
centres such as Calgary and
Edmonton, where uncertain-
ty in the energy sector has
negatively impacted local
economies,’’ notes Royal
LePage’s residential mor-
tgage spokesman.

In Central Canada, par-
ticularly metropolitan
Toronto, demand for mor-
tgages remains extremely
strong.

As in previous months,
purchasers of new or resale
homes are locking-in for
longer-term mortgages.
