While in) British Columbia on their 32-week tour, the prize- Winning ensemble will also per- form at Expo's Plaza of Nations, at the University of B.C. and in White Rock, Abbotsford, Terrace and other cities. Formed in 1981 of outanding students from London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the li-member ensemble has toured extensively in Eastern and Western Europe. The conductorless eroup performs frequently in London's major concert halls and makes numerous festival appearances in Britain and Europe. Only one year after its forma- tion, the Guildhall String Ensem- ble became the first: British group ever to win first prize in) the prestigious Jeunesses Musicales Competition in) Yugoslavia. The group has a number of other awards to its credit, including the ivan Sutton Recording Prize. Praised by critics throughout Europe for their style, technique and interpretative unanimity, the members of the Guildhall String Ensemble represent a new genera- tion of British chamber musicians, combining individual virtuosity with flawless ensemble playing.
