12 - Wednesday, July 10, 1985 - North Share News MERCHANTS BEWARE Fake travellers’ cheques passed NORTH SHORE merchants are being asked ta keep their eyes open for counterfeit travellers’ cheques. North Vancouver RCMP have received numerous complaints in recent weeks from local merchants about fraudulent travellers’ che- ques. Cst. Alison Irons said the most recent incident involves a male who purchased a sweater using a $50 Bank of America travellers’ cheque. The cheque was later con- firmed by the merchants own bank to be false, Lrons said. The male, described as 6'F'', about 30 years old, slim, tanned, with dark brown hair, is believed to be responsible for similar frauds recently in’ North Vancouver. He is often accompanied by a female in her late 20's with shoulder length brown hair and an accent, Irons said. The couple is known to wear press passes to divert attention from their ap- pearance. Irons said it may be the same couple who were reported in the News several months ago as stealing credit cards from smali businesses. Police are advising area merchants to be suspicious of persons fitting the description who attempt to pay for goods with travellers’ cheques. The cheques are in U.S. dollars, are of poor quality and bear false or no serial numbers. RCMP continue to inves- tigate. employees of WHITE SALE. I save 30%-50% A TOWELS & | BATH RUGS BY frerrcrest.
