WILL West Vancouver go along with the concept of cre-
ating a single transit operating unit Lo serve the entire
North Shore? West Vancouverites are proud of their Blue
Bus system and, judging, from comments made by Mayor
Pat Boname last year, worry that expanding it into
North Vancouver might somehow compromise its level
of service. But, on the face of it, it’s a no-brainer. The
new regional ‘TransLink agreement makes provision for
semi-autonomous regional services and has already con-
cluded the North Shore “is, to a significant degree, seen
as a distinct, coherent market.” The Blue Bus garage sits
on North Vancouver District land with room to expand, while North Van's 3rd Street
garage is bursting at the seams. Revised scheduling could make the biggest improve-
ments for users, West Vancouverites could get to Lions Gate Hospital directly, while
North Van service to Park Royal could be improved. Seems like a win/win to us.
