These problems have been around for several years, and there is no reason residents should have to put up with noise, vandalism, and animal like behaviour all - night. Yet, the owners of these two establishments are also entitled to justice at City Hall, even though they might _ only represent. one vote each. They must have invest- - ments in their establishments representing . several thousands of dollars which . they could stand to lose, © because it is questionable if they can operate profitably with the earlier closing. I tried to get support for the idea of reducing closing hours to midnight Monday through Thursday, with later hours to 2:00 a.m. Friday © and Saturday evenings when ‘the community traditionally _ keeps later hours. Then, if the situation hadn't im- proved after a six month period, I could have justified “ sleaséa have them here. There will then likely be a re-assessment of what the Ministry is prepared to pay to operate’ this hospital. If there continues to be a_ wide discrepancy between costs and income, then on the advice of our professional staff we will have to decide if certain services should be the potential danger these chemical plants and the transportation of hazardous goods pose to the well-being of our community.
