A12-Sunday News, September 28, 1980 By PAT RICH Plans have been filed for the new Lynnmour firehall in North Vancouver on the same site as the existing Number 2 fire station at the corner of Mountain Highway and Hunter Street. The move comes seven months after residents of the area forced District ‘council to reconsider and then abandon plans to build the firehall on a portion of Sey- Lynp park. The new proposal calls for the expropriation of property adjacent to the existing firehall and con- ‘struction of smaller building than originally planned. Also, a training facility that was included in plans for the firehall at Sey-Lynn must be located elsewhere because there is no room for it on the proposed site. Plans for the new building were submitted to the District, September 12, and cauncil last week filed them as required under the Municipal Act when ex- propriation is involved. “This whole thing has been in the mill ever since Sey-Lynn” McDonald said. He said that the fire department had looked at a total of six possible sites, but the only ones that were acceptable were the present site and the Sey-Lynn site. “This was the second alternative,” he said. But the preferred site in the eyes of District council and the fire department was not viewed favourably by local residents who feared Aldermen want stream preserved The North Vancouver City engineering department will look at ways to solve the problem of erosion in Wagg park that will preserve the stream ‘that runs through the park, after council rejected the idea of just covering the stream. City council last week requested further study on the subject because they were dissatisfied with the City engineer's suggestion which called for covering over the stream by means of a culvert. Action is required in the park at West 22nd Street and Chesterfield Avenue, because the stream has. ne ry 20/ eroded private property at 206 West 22nd and is threatening a gas main. Aldermen said they wanted to keep the stream uncovered but were told that it would do no good just to build walls along it, because PCN ee @ C) Sao ru "Ge: Off Our Entire Line of Dried and Artificial Arrangements SHOP EVENINGS VANCOUVER « OAKRIDGE « PARK ROYAL + SEVENOAKS - agBuTUS ° Open There. & Pri, 9:30 AM - 7:08 Pm MEW WEETMINETER « GUILDFORD « Weds There. & Frit. 1:20 Am . 60 Pr COQUITLAM © LAMEDOWME © Wed) Thre. & Pri. 9:30 AM . 230 POA On sale at Woodward Food Floors until Saturday, October 4th, while quantities last. these would be undercut by the stream. “If you wish to have an open channel,’ City engineer Tom Scott said, “it would not be a natural creek, it will be a channel with concrete’ walls and a losing parkland. They succeeded in stopping land preparation work on the Sey-Lynn site and eventually forced District council to send the matter back to the drawing board. Work on the new firehall cannot begin now until the expropriation of property at 1521 Hunter Street is complete and the necessary by-law has been passed. Under the Municipal Act, the owners of the property More study of park erosion concrete bottom.” But Alderman Gary Payne said “more and more creeks are being lost to engineering convenience,” so the idea of leaving tlie creek open was returned to staff for more study.
